Information on Florida group Health Insurance Schemes
Friday, June 27th, 2008Quite a large number of Americans are insured under group health insurance plan and the rules regarding group plans are same as seen in other states. There are certain restrictions in group health insurance plans and a person has to fulfill some criteria for getting involved in group health insurance plan. If an employer is operating a group health insurance scheme, he may not include al his employee under this scheme simply because of its rules and regulation. This group health insurance scheme is for full time employees and if the scheme is run by an HMO, then only those employees can be included, who are living inside the service area of the HMO.
If one is eligible for the membership, then he has to be allowed to join regardless of his health condition. One cannot be excluded from the plan based on the result of genetic information. An employer cannot exclude you solely on your present and past medical history.
Mostly all group health plans have an enrollment period in which you have to join the scheme, and in most cases it is within the 30 days of joining the company. However if you didn’t join at this point of time then your employer has to give you the opportunity to join during special enrollments period. Generally all plans have a waiting membership period, which is anywhere from 30 days to 3 months. An employer has to apply consistently for this waiting period for all the employees and during this time that employee is not covered by the group scheme.
